Sharks look to snap road losing streak against Lightning
Oct 29, 2006 - 3:45 PM San Jose (7-4-0) at Tampa Bay (5-5-0) 5:00 pm ESTTAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Nearly seven years ago, the San Jose Sharks had a record-setting performance on the road against the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, they have struggled there ever since.
The Sharks will look for their first win in Tampa Bay since 2000 when they take on the Lightning on Sunday.
The Sharks set a franchise record for largest margin of victory with an 8-0 road win over Tampa Bay on February 8, 2000. Since then, San Jose has recorded only seven goals in three losses and a tie in its last four trips to the St. Pete Times Forum.
Vincent Lecavalier had a goal and an assist and Martin St. Louis scored for the Lightning, who had their three-game winning streak snapped with a 6-4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.
St. Louis, who had a natural hat trick on Thursday, has five goals in his last three games.
The Sharks absorbed a second straight road loss with a 4-3 setback at the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Joe Thornton had three assists, but it was not enough to help San Jose dig out of the 3-1 deficit late in the second period.
Since the start of last season, San Jose is 10-1 against the Eastern Conference, including 5-0 vs. teams from the Southeast.
