Wild look to notch record-setting month against Avalanche

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Wild are having an incredible start to the 2006-07 season, and it all began with a win over the Colorado Avalanche in the season opener.

The Wild will look to set a franchise record for wins in a month when they take on the Avalanche at the Pepsi Center on Sunday.

Todd White scored in overtime and Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist as the Wild won their season debut with a 3-2 triumph over Colorado on October 5.

Minnesota has been flying high ever since, riding a three-game winning streak. With another victory, the Wild post 10 wins in October - a team record.

Mikko Koivu scored the shootout clincher and Brian Rolston netted his team-leading ninth goal to lead the Wild to their seventh home win in as many tries this season, a 3-2 triumph over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.

In winning for the ninth time in 10 contests in 2005-2006, Minnesota extended its regular-season home winning streak to 10 dating to last season.

Joe Sakic registered a goal and an assist to surpass 1,500 career points as Colorado endured a 5-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.

Sakic scored his fifth goal of the season and 579th career just 1:42 into the third period, but it was not enough as the Avalanche lost for the third time in their last four home games.

Colorado's captain has 13 goals and 15 assists in 27 games against the Wild in his 18-year career.
