Thrashers aim to end Lighting's five-game winning streak

ATLANTA (Ticker) - The Atlanta Thrashers will look to reach .500 for the first time when they host the Tampa Bay Lighting on Monday.

Since general manager Don Waddell took over for fired coach Bob Hartley last month, the Thrashers have responded by posting an impressive 9-4-0 mark.

Atlanta left wing Ilya Kovalchuk has shined under Waddell's watch, registering 13 goals and 23 points - including four tallies and an assist in two games against Tampa Bay - since the departure of Hartley.

Marian Hossa had two goals and Kovalchuk added an empty-net tally and an assist as the Thrashers rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. It was goaltender Johan Hedberg's 11th career shutout.

Tampa Bay, however, has also been on roll recently, capturing its fifth straight win with Saturday's 5-2 triumph over the Washington Capitals.

Vincent Lecavalier carried the load with a goal and two assists for the Lighting to extend his team record for consecutive multi-point games to seven. He has six tallies and 13 assists during the streak.

Atlanta has dropped two of three meetings in the season series, but rallied from a three-goal deficit for a 6-4 win on November 3.
