Jagr, Rangers go for sixth straight win
Nov 19, 2007 - 2:44 PM Ny Islanders (10-6-0) at Ny Rangers (12-7-1) 7:00 pm ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Jaromir Jagr is looking to keep the division-leading New York Rangers rolling against their biggest rival.
The 35-year-old captain will try to lead the Rangers to their sixth consecutive victory when they host the New York Islanders on Monday in an Atlantic Division battle.
The Rangers received some help from their defensive corps in Saturday's 4-3 triumph in overtime over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The blue-liners scored all four goals for the Rangers, including Jason Strudwick's game-winning tally in the extra session.
The win propelled the Rangers into the top spot in the division. Jagr leads the squad with 13 assists and 17 points on the season, but the main reason for the Rangers' success has been Henrik Lundqvist.
The Swedish netminder is 11-7-1 with a 1.78 goals-against average and four shutouts this season. He has yielded more than three goals just once this campaign, coming on October 18 against the Atlanta Thrashers.
The Rangers' only setback in their last 10 contests came against the Islanders on November 6 in a 3-2 setback. Miroslav Satan scored the game-winner. Satan, who has five goals and 12 points on the season, leads the club with a plus-six rating.
After suffering back-to-back losses to divisional opponents, the Islanders posted a 1-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday. Rick DiPietro made 26 saves for his second shutout of the season.
