Ovechkin, Capitals aim to end three-game slide

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals will look to snap their three-game losing streak when the Florida Panthers come calling on Monday.

Ovechkin scored his 13th goal of the season and Brent Johnson had 19 saves but Washington still fell 5-2 to the Tampa Bay Lighting on Friday night.

The Capitals could receive a boost from Alexander Semin, who might return to the ice after being sidelined since last October due to a nagging right ankle injury. He scored 38 goals last campaign.

Florida, which is just 2-8-1 away from home this season, is seeking its second win in just seven games.

Goaltender Tomas Vokoun gave up two goals to Rod Brind'Amour as the Panthers suffered a 2-1 setback to the Carolina Hurricanes in their last outing on Saturday.

But Vokoun was solid in his career against the Capitals, posting a 3-3 record with a 1.68 goals-against average.

Panthers rookie defenseman Cory Murphy could miss his third straight game with a bruised shoulder. He has 10 assists - third on the team.
