Senators look to ruin special night for Robinson, Canadiens

Nov 19, 2007 - 2:49 PM Ottawa (15-3-0) at Montreal (11-5-3) 7:30 pm EST

MONTREAL (Ticker) -- As good as the Ottawa Senators have been this season, they will have to take a back seat to a former Montreal Canadien.

The Senators put their league-best record on the line Monday when they travel to the Bell Centre to meet the Canadiens on a night that the team will retire the No. 19 jersey of defenseman Larry Robinson.

A six-time Stanley Cup winner with Montreal, Robinson finished his career near the top of every offensive category for defensemen. He leads the all-time list for regular-season games played (1,202), goals (197), assists (686) and points (883).

Ottawa coasted to a 13-1-0 start, but its special teams came up short on Saturday in a 3-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team went 0-for-4 with the man advantage and gave up two power-play goals to drop to 2-2 in its last four contests.

Over their last four contests, the Senators are just 1-for-18 on the power play and they have allowed six power-play goals in their last five games.

While they haven't enjoyed quite the level of early-season success the Senators have, Montreal is only five points behind Ottawa and enters the game having won four of six.

Right wing Alexei Kovalev scored his team-leading 10th goal in Saturday's 7-4 victory over Boston, becoming the first Canadien to score 10 goals in the first 20 games or less since Martin Rucinsky in 1996-97.
