Avalanche look to beat Flames for eighth straight time
Nov 20, 2007 - 2:15 PM Colorado (11-7-1) at Calgary (8-9-3) 9:00 pm ESTCALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) - A meeting with the Calgary Flames could not have come at a better time for the Colorado Avalanche.
Paul Stastny and the Avalanche will hope to avoid a third consecutive loss when they visit the Flames on Tuesday in a battle of Northwest Division foes.
Colorado has defeated Calgary in each of their last seven meetings, including three times this season. Stastny has been a major reason for the club's success against the Flames, tallying two goals and three assists in three games against the division rival this season.
Stastny has showed no signs of suffering from the sophomore slump this season. The second-year center leads the Avalanche in most offensive categories, notching nine goals and 22 points.
Colorado, however, has struggled recently. The squad has been outscored, 10-2, in their previous two contests and has fallen from the top spot in the division standings.
The Flames, on the other hand, have struggled pretty much all month. Calgary has lost six of its last eight games in November, but can still climb to .500 with a win over Colorado.
The Flames will hope captain Jarome Iginla can get it going. He has just one goal in his last five games.
