Modano, Stars eye division lead

DALLAS (Ticker) -The Dallas Stars look to take over the top spot in the Pacific Division with their fourth consecutive victory when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.

The Stars will enter the contest, sitting just one point behind the division-leading San Jose Sharks, who are idle Friday.

Mike Modano scored a power-play goal in Wednesday's 2-1 triumph over the Anaheim Ducks. The NHL's all-time leading scorer among American-born players has six goals and seven assists on the campaign.

Dallas has been led this season by Brenden Morrow and Mike Ribeiro. Morrow leads the club with 21 points, while Ribeiro has eight goals and 12 assists in just 18 games this season.

After this contest, the Stars will start a brutal stretch, playing six road games in nine days.

The Maple Leafs lost for the fourth time in five games on Tuesday when they squandered a two-gaol lead in a 4-2 setback to the Boston Bruins.

Toronto also has struggled after regulation this season, going 1-5 in games decided in overtime or the shootout.

It comes as no surprise that Mats Sundin is leading the club in most offensive categories. The 36-year-old Swede has collected 11 goals and 27 points with a plus-8 on the season.
