Islanders look to get power play on track vs. Bruins
Nov 24, 2007 - 2:34 PM Boston (11-7-2) at NY Islanders (11-8-0) 7:00 pm ESTUNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) - The New York Islanders are not going to win many games if their power play continues to play like this.
The Islanders will try to get their struggling offense on track when they host the Boston Bruins on Saturday in the back end of a home-and-home series.
The Bruins claimed a 2-1 victory against the Islanders in Boston on Friday, getting 25 saves from goaltender Tim Thomas in the win. New York's power play continued to sputter in the loss, going scoreless in three chances.
In their last 10 games, the Islanders are are just 3-for-40 with the man-advantage and their 18 power play goals this season ranks last in the NHL.
Friday also marked the sixth time 19 games that the Islanders have scored just one goal and the team has scored two or fewer goals in seven straight games, going 3-4-0 over that span.
Boston's Glen Murray and Glen Metropolit each scored a goal in Friday's victory, the team's second straight and fourth in five games. Murray has scored at least one point in four consecutive games.
With Thomas having played Friday, rookie netminder Tuukka Rask could make his second career start Saturday. In his NHL debut on Tuesday, the 20-year-old stopped 30 shots in a 4-2 win over Toronto.
Starting with this game at Nassau Coliseum, the Bruins will play nine of their next 10 on the road.
