Brodeur, Devils look to keep rolling vs. Lightning
Nov 24, 2007 - 3:28 PM New Jersey (10-10-2) at Tampa Bay (10-10-2) 7:30 pm ESTTAMPA, Florida (Ticker) - The rest of the NHL better look out - Martin Brodeur is starting to heat up.
Brodeur will look to lead the New Jersey Devils to their fourth straight victory when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
Brodeur stopped all 22 shots he faced to record his 502nd career victory as the Devils posted a 3-0 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner notched his first shutout of the season and 93rd of his impressive career.
It has been a rough season thus far for the Devils, who began the campaign with nine contests on the road before christening the Prudential Center on October 27. Thus, it came as no surprise that the Devils struggled to begin the season, posting a 3-6-1 record in their first 10 games.
But New Jersey improved as the calendar flipped to November. The Devils were 7-4-1 in their previous 12 games, winning their last four road contests.
The Lightning, on the other hand, will try to get back on track after relinquishing a two-goal lead in the third period of Friday's 4-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Tampa Bay has lost its last three games after winning five consecutive. They have been much better at home this season, posting an 8-2-1 record at St. Pete Times Forum.
Despite the club's recent struggles, Vincent Lecavalier might be the top candidate for the Hart Trophy so far this season. Last season's Maurice Richard Trophy recipient, Lecavalier has 15 goals and a league-leading 36 points.
