Sabres seeking first home win vs. Blues in 12 years

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres try to end a 12-year drought on Wednesday when they host the St. Louis Blues.

The Sabres haven't beat the Blues at home since claiming a 5-2 victory on October 22, 1995. Buffalo is 0-5-0 against St. Louis since then - including a 5-1 setback during the teams' last meeting in March, 2004.

However, the Sabres are one of the NHL's hottest teams and enter the game on a five-game winning streak. Jochen Hecht scored two goals and added an assist as Buffalo extended its streak with a 3-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Monday.

Hecht has three goals in his last two games and is tied with Derek Roy for the team lead with eight goals this season. The 30-year-old center played three seasons for the Blues after being drafted in 1995.

St. Louis is just as hot as Buffalo with six wins in its last seven games.

The Blues skated away with a 3-0 victory over the Calgary Flames in their last game on Sunday as Manny Legace made 24 saves for his first shutout of the season.

Legace, who has won four of his last five starts, is 2-0-0 with a 2.88 goals against average and .889 save percentage in three career starts against the Sabres.
