Brodeur, Devils look to keep rolling vs. surging Stars
Nov 28, 2007 - 2:44 PM Dallas (13-7-4) at New Jersey (11-10-2) 7:00 pm ESTNEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) - Ever since Martin Brodeur recorded his 500th career win, the New Jersey Devils have been on a roll. But can they keep it up against the NHL's hottest team?
Brodeur and the Devils will be after a season-high fifth consecutive win when they host the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.
A three-time Vezina Trophy winner, Brodeur has yielded just five goals over his four-game winning streak. The 35-year-old netminder, who is 9-10-1 on the season, now has 503 career wins.
Brodeur, who has been the starting goaltender for each of the franchise's three Stanley Cup championships, is 8-8-0 with a 2.06 goals-against average and two shutouts in 16 career regular season games against the Stars.
Dallas has won its last six contests and climbed to the top of the Pacific Division standings. They have not lost a game in regulation since November 8, going 6-0-2 over that stretch.
Second-year goaltender Mike Smith has posted four of those victories, allowing just four goals in that four-game span. Smith, who may soon unseat Marty Turco as the team's starter, is 6-3-0 with a 2.19 GAA and .916 save percentage this season.
Offensively, the Stars have been led by Brenden Morrow, who has nine goals and a team-leading 23 points on the season.
