Ducks try to remain unbeaten in regulation vs. Blues

Oct 30, 2006 - 3:46 PM Anaheim (8-0-3) at St. Louis (3-4-2) 8:00 pm EST

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Solid goaltending is a major reason the Anaheim Ducks are the only Western Conference team without a regulation loss this season.

Anaheim will call upon either Ilya Bryzgalov or Jean-Sebastien Giguere when it concludes a three-game road trip with Monday's showdown against the St. Louis Blues.

Making just his third start of the campaign, Bryzgalov needed to stop just 14 shots in Saturday's 3-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. It was his first shutout of the season after recording three in 11 playoff games last spring.

Bryzgalov's performance enabled Giguere - a former Conn Smythe Trophy winner - to get a night off after giving up a shootout goal to Mikko Koivu in Friday's 3-2 defeat to the Minnesota Wild. He is 6-0-3 with a 1.81 goals-against average.

After finishing with the league's worst mark last season (21-46-15), St. Louis has a chance to reach the .500 mark after 10 games. The Blues are wrapping up a stretch of six home games in seven contests.

Bill Guerin netted his fourth goal of the season and Radek Dvorak scored shorthanded - his third tally of the campaign - as the Blues lost for the third time in four games with Saturday's 3-2 setback to the Detroit Red Wings.

Chris Kunitz scored a pair of power-play goals and Giguere stopped 34 shots in a 2-0 triumph over the Blues in their last encounter on October 9.
