Capitals aim to end road trip with split
Oct 30, 2006 - 3:54 PM Washington (3-3-4) at Calgary (3-5-1) 9:00 pm ESTCALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals seek a split in the conclusion of their four-game road trip against the Calgary Flames on Monday.
The Capitals opened their trek with a win at Colorado before falling at their next two stops, including a 4-0 setback to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Goaltender Brent Johnson made 24 saves for Washington, which was outshot, 28-19.
The reigning Calder Trophy winner, Alexander Ovechkin had his four-game goal-scoring streak stopped and fellow Russian Alexander Semin was held without a point for a second straight game after beginning his career by scoring in eight straight contests.
The last time the Capitals lost to the Flames was March 1999. Calgary aims to change that by posting its second win in its last six outings.
The Flames absorbed a 3-2 shortcoming to the Nashville Predators on Saturday. Jarome Iginla tallied twice while netminder Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 32 shots for the Flames, who went 1-for-3 on the power play.
