Rangers look for first win against Islanders

NEW YORK (Ticker) - The New York Rangers aim for their first win in four tries against the New York Islanders this season when the teams meet at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

Each of the Rangers' losses against their Atlantic Division rival have been by one goal.

The biggest problem the Rangers have encountered against the Islanders this season has been offense. They have managed just four goals against Rick DiPietro.

When the teams last met on November 19, DiPietro celebrated his 100th career victory in a 2-1 win.

Overall, the Islanders are 8-1-2 in their last 11 games against the Rangers.

Henrik Lundqvist has posted a 2.37 goals-against average for the Rangers, but is 0-3 against the Islanders.

Off since Sunday, the Rangers enter this contest hoping to avoid a third straight home loss. Despite holding a lopsided 41-18 advantage in shots, the Rangers endured a 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars in their last contest.

The Islanders are coming off a 3-2 shootout victory over the Ottawa Senators. on Wednesday.
