Stillman, slumping Hurricanes host lowly Capitals

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - After an excellent start, the Carolina Hurricanes appear to be on the decline.

Cory Stillman and the Hurricanes hope a meeting with the league's worst team can help cure their recent woes when they host the Washington Capitals on Friday in a Southeast Division matchup.

Carolina has a conference-best 81 goals this season, but has still lost five of its previous seven contests. The division-leading club is just 7-8-0 over their last 15 games.

Stillman, who scored the lone Hurricanes' tally in the third period of Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, has 12 goals and a team-leading 30 points this season.

The Capitals have to be happy that the month of November is coming to an end. Washington won just three games this month and fired coach Glen Hanlon on November 22.

Interim coach Bruce Boudreau is 2-1-1 since taking over, but the offense has managed just two goals over its last two contests. The Capitals suffered a 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers after an 11-round shootout Wednesday.

Alex Ovechkin leads the league's worst offense with 17 tallies and 27 points.
