Blackhawks try to avoid fourth straight shutout loss

Oct 31, 2006 - 3:35 PM Chicago (4-7-0) at NY Islanders (4-4-2) 7:30 pm EST

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- After continuing their lack of success in Philadelphia, the Chicago Blackhawks are hoping for anything that is positive.

Chicago tries to avert its fourth consecutive shutout loss and sixth straight defeat Tuesday when they visit the New York Islanders in their only meeting of the campaign.

Playing the second contest of a three-game Eastern road trip, Chicago has been outscored, 11-0, in consecutive losses to Vancouver, Anaheim and Philadelphia.

Although they had a 15-5 edge on shots on goal in the second period, the Blackhawks managed just 26 shots and failed to score on three power-play opportunities in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Flyers. Chicago has dropped seven straight games in Philadelphia dating to November 9, 1996.

After opening the season with three losses on a four-game Western road trip, the Islanders have split the first six contests of a seven-game homestand.

Andy Hilbert scored the clincher in the 10th round of a shootout, Jason Blake netted his fifth goal of the season and Alexei Yashin added his fourth to lead the Islanders in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers.

New York posted a 2-1 overtime victory over Chicago in their most recent meeting on January 17. The Blackhawks have not won here since December 10, 2002.
