Alfredsson, Senators look to end slump

SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - The Ottawa Senators still have the best record in the Eastern Conference, but that could change if they continue to play like this.

Captain Daniel Alfredsson will try to help his squad snap a seven-game winless streak when the Senators visit the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.

Alfredsson helped the Senators erase a two-goal deficit by tallying pair of goals and an assist in the final session, but failed to score in the shootout as they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-3, on Tuesday. It was their third shootout loss during the current skid.

The 34-year-old Alfredsson has four goals and seven assists during Ottawa's slump and ranks third in the NHL with 19 goals.

The Panthers have suffered back-to-back one-goal losses at home to the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals. Prior to that, the team had put together a season-high four-game winning streak.

Florida goaltender Tomas Vokoun has been excellent over his previous seven starts, going 5-2-0 with a 1.83 goals-against average. He is 12-11-0 with a 2.72 GAA and .916 save percentage.

Olli Jokinen leads Florida with 12 tallies and 14 assists on the season.
