Brodeur, Devils aim for ninth straight win

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) - Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils aim to extend their season-high winning streak to nine games when they host the Washington Capitals on Friday.

Brodeur has been instrumental in helping the Devils to their longest winning streak since a franchise-record 11-game stretch from March - April 18, 2006.

The reigning Vezina Trophy winner made 23 saves in a 4-3 overtime win against Boston on Wednesday and has posted a 1.48 goals-against average with two shutouts during the win streak.

The Devils nearly saw the streak end on Wednesday, but Patrik Elias and Zach Parise each scored a pair of goals to help the team rally from a 3-0 deficit against Boston.

Parise has helped New Jersey outscore its opponents, 29-12, during the winning streak. He recorded a hat trick last Friday and has five goals in his last three games.

Washington, which owns the league's worst record, hasn't played since picking up a 2-1 win over Florida on Saturday. Alex Ovechkin, who has at least one point in 11 of the last 12 games, snapped a 1-1 tie with a less than five minutes left in regulation to help the Capitals end a three-game losing streak.

New Jersey has won 12 of the last 15 meetings, but the teams have yet to play this season.
