Toivonen expected to make third consecutive start for Blues

EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) - If called upon again on Friday, Hannu Toivonen will be ready.

A backup goaltender in his first season with the St. Louis Blues, Toivonen could take on a bigger role if the recent injury to starter Manny Legace keeps him out for an extended period of time.

Toivonen is expected to make his third consecutive start when the Blues face the Edmonton Oilers. Toivonen was in goal for St. Louis' 3-1 home win over Chicago on Saturday and also started in a 3-1 loss at Calgary on Tuesday after Legace injured his right knee during pregame warmups.

Legace is 11-6-1 with a 2.22 goals-against average, but his status for the immediate future is unknown after he re-injured the same knee he had surgery on last spring. Toivonen is 4-3-0 with a 1.99 GAA and a .927 save percentage for the Blues, 8-2-1 in their last 11 games.

St. Louis went 3-1 against the Oilers last season. A 4-2 home loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday ended Edmonton's three-game winning streak.
