Thornton, Sharks seeking third straight win

GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) - Joe Thornton will try to help the San Jose Sharks get their third consecutive victory when they visit the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday in a Pacific Division matchup.

Thornton scored a goal and set up two others in Wednesday's 3-2 triumph over the division-leading Dallas Stars.

Milan Michalek retrieved a dump-in behind the net and made a quick pass in front to a charging Thornton, who provided the game-winner with a one-timer from the slot that beat netminder Marty Turco with just under 9 minutes to play.

Thornton leads San Jose with 12 tallies and and 34 points on the season. The 28-year-old center has four goals and six assists over his previous four games.

A trip back home and a visit from the Los Angeles Kings were just what the Coyotes needed to get out of their rut. Rookie Peter Mueller scored a goal and added two assists as Phoenix snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 triumph Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Mueller has eight goals and 14 points this season. He ranks second - behind Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews - in goals among NHL rookies.

Phoenix is looking for its fourth straight home win. The club's last loss at Jobing.com Arena came at the hands of San Jose as Evgeni Nabokov made just 15 saves in the 6-0 triumph.
