Devils aim for 10th straight win, visit Rangers
Dec 9, 2007 - 2:37 PM New Jersey (16-10-2) at Ny Rangers (15-12-2) 5:00 pm ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Martin Brodeur will hope to lead the New Jersey Devils to their 10th straight win when they visit the Atlantic Division rival New York Rangers on Sunday.
The three-time Vezina winner stopped 22 shots as New Jersey edged the Washington Capitals, 3-2, on Friday. The Devils' winning streak matches the Detroit Red Wings for the NHL's longest run this season.
New Jersey is riding its longest winning streak since closing the 2005-06 season with 11 straight wins. The latest streak started with Brodeur's 500th career victory as he became the first goaltender in NHL history to achieve the milestone with one team.
The 14-year veteran, who has 508 career wins, is 43 shy of matching Patrick Roy for the most in NHL history.
The Devils' offense has surged as well behind the play of Zach Parise, who leads the club with 14 goals and 32 points.
Offense has been the problem for the Rangers, who are trying to avoid a fourth straight loss. They have managed just four goals during the skid.
No player on New York has reached double digits in goals this season with Brendan Shanahan leading the team with nine tallies. Former Devil Scott Gomez leads the club with 17 assists and 22 points.
