Auld hopes to build off successful debut with Bruins

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - A change in uniform is just what Alex Auld needed.

Auld will try to build off an impressive debut when the Boston Bruins visit the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night in a battle of Northeast Division rivals.

In his first start with his new club, a well-rested Auld made 25 saves as the Bruins defeated the surging Toronto Maple Leafs, 2-1, on Saturday. Auld has now won his debut for all four teams with which he has played in the NHL.

It was the first action Auld has seen since November 15. The 26-year-old goaltender was acquired from the Phoenix Coyotes on December 6, the day after Tim Thomas went down with a groin injury. Manny Fernandez already had been sidelined with knee and back ailments.

Auld will have his work cut out for him against the Sabres who are coming off an impressive 7-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

In Buffalo's first-ever win in San Jose, Tim Connolly scored a momentum-turning shorthanded goal and Paul Gaustad had two tallies as the Sabres scored seven unanswered goals to close out the game.

Derek Roy leads the club with 10 goals and 23 points this season for Buffalo.
