Sim tries to lead Thrashers to first win over Hurricanes

Nov 1, 2006 - 4:17 PM Carolina (5-5-2) at Atlanta (8-2-3) 7:00 pm EST

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Jon Sim has had some success in two games against the Carolina Hurricanes this season. However, it has not been enough to lead his team to a victory.

Sim looks to add to his goal-scoring total when the Atlanta Thrashers go for their sixth win in nine games Wednesday against the Hurricanes.

Signed as a free agent on July 14 after splitting time with the Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers last season, Sim has scored three of his six goals this season against Carolina.

Sim netted a pair of tallies in Atlanta's first regulation loss of the season, a 4-3 defeat to the Hurricanes on October 13. Twelve days later, he again scored against Carolina in a 5-4 overtime loss.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored his ninth goal of the campaign on a power play and Brad Larsen added a shorthanded tally for the Thrashers in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The defending champion Hurricanes come off a split of their home-and-home series against the Tampa Bay Lightning in battles featuring the last two Stanley Cup winners.

After suffering a 5-1 loss to the Lightning on Thursday, Carolina bounced back with a 6-4 triumph on Saturday.
