Kaberle looks to continue scoring surge vs. Lightning

Nov 1, 2006 - 4:36 PM Toronto (6-4-3) at Tampa Bay (5-6-0) 7:30 pm EST

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Although he is not known for his offensive production, defenseman Tomas Kaberle has provided a recent spark for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Kaberle hopes to continue his roll Wednesday when the Maple Leafs go for their third straight victory in the first of four encounters with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After failing to score a goal in his first 10 games, Kaberle became just the sixth blueliner in franchise history and first since Borje Salming in 1981 to record a hat trick last Saturday against Montreal.

The Czech followed by netting the go-ahead tally for Toronto in the first period of Monday's 4-2 triumph over the Atlanta Thrashers. Darcy Tucker added two goals as the Maple Leafs scored three times on power plays in 86 seconds.

Captain Mats Sundin assisted on all-three first-period tallies to equal a franchise mark for assists in a period.

After three consecutive victories, Tampa Bay has lost to the Carolina Hurricanes and San Jose Sharks, and is tied with the Washington Capitals for last place in the Southeast Division.

Martin St. Louis scored his seventh goal - his sixth in four games - and Vincent Lecavalier added his sixth for the Lightning in last Sunday's 4-2 loss to San Jose.

The teams split their four encounters last season with Toronto posting a 5-1 victory over Tampa Bay in their last matchup on March 11.
