Ducks look to open November with win over the Rangers

Nov 1, 2006 - 4:43 PM NY Rangers (5-6-0) at Anaheim (9-0-3) 10:00 pm EST

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- After an impressive opening month to the campaign, the Anaheim Ducks have risen to the top of the Western Conference.

The Ducks try to continue the best start in franchise history Wednesday when they host the New York Rangers in their only meeting of the season.

The lone Western team without a regulation loss, Anaheim has recorded points in 12 consecutive games, tying a franchise record set from February 22-March 19, 1997. The Ducks are tied with the Buffalo Sabres with a league-best 21 points.

Teemu Selanne and Ryan Getzlaf scored in the shootout and Dustin Penner added a goal and an assist as the Ducks bounced back after failing to hold a two-goal lead in Monday's 6-5 triumph over the St. Louis Blues.

Playing the third contest of their four-game West Coast road trip, the Rangers failed to score in nine power-play chances in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. New York yielded the first three goals and was outshot, 21-5, in the opening period.

Brendan Shanahan scored his 10th goal of the season late in the second period, which ranks him among the league leaders. It was also his 608th tally, tying him with Dino Ciccarelli for 13th place all-time.

The Rangers have won three of their five road games this season and have not lost here since a 6-4 defeat to the Ducks on December 15, 2000.
