Recchi, Thrashers look to end slide

ATLANTA (Ticker) - Mark Recchi and the Atlanta Thrashers try to end a two-game losing streak on Friday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Recchi, who was claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, made his debut with the Thrashers on Wednesday and scored two goals 61 seconds apart to forge a 3-3 tie with the Boston Bruins.

However, Recchi's performance wasn't enough as Atlanta suffered a 5-3 setback for their third loss in five games.

Recchi had two goals and six assists in 19 games with the Penguins this campaign and registered 68 points last season. Pittsburgh felt Recchi's skills were diminishing this season and - after failing to trade him - placed him on waivers.

The 39-year-old right wing has had plenty of success against the Maple Leafs during his career, posting 16 goals and 56 points in 51 career games.

The Maple Leafs enter Friday's contest with five wins in their last six contests - including a dominating 6-1 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday.

Chad Kilger scored two goals against the Lightning and now has four points in his last four games. The 31-year-old left wing has seven goals and four assists this season but has just four points in 23 career games against the Thrashers.
