Crosby, Penguins try to end skid vs. Islanders
Dec 15, 2007 - 3:20 PM Pittsburgh (15-14-2) at NY Islanders (15-13-2) 7:00 pm ESTUNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) - The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost two games in a row in embarrassing fashion, and superstar Sidney Crosby can't seem to find the net.
Crosby and the Penguins will look to find their offense when they visit the Atlantic Division rival New York Islanders on Saturday.
Pittsburgh has dropped its last two games by a combined score of 12-3, with backup goaltender Dany Sabourin allowing eight goals over the two contests. First-string netminder Marc-Andre Fleury is out up to two months with a high-ankle sprain, and Sabourin and Ty Conklin will be charged with holding down the fort until he returns.
Crosby, who won the Hart Trophy last season while racking up 120 points, has gone eight games without a goal - tying the longest streak in his career. In Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators, Crosby took nine shots - three on breakaway chances - and still could not find the net.
The Islanders may be the perfect team to break Crosby out of his funk, however. He has tallied 33 points in 17 career games against New York, his second highest total against any team.
The Islanders have had trouble doing much of anything right lately, losing six of their past eight games.
However, Bill Guerin scored twice and Rick DiPietro stopped 34 shots on Thursday to lead New York to a 3-2 win over the lowly Phoenix Coyotes.
