Newly acquired McDonald aims to help Blues snap skid

Dec 16, 2007 - 2:16 PM Calgary (15-13-5) at St Louis (16-11-2) 6:00 pm EST

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Blues hope that the recent acquisition of Andy McDonald will give them a much-needed spark.

McDonald will try and help his new team snap a three-game skid when the Blues host the Calgary Flames on Sunday.

A seven-year veteran, McDonald was traded from Anaheim to St. Louis on Friday for Doug Weight, Michal Birner and a seventh-round pick in next year's draft.

"We're excited to add a top caliber forward to our hockey team," St. Louis president John Davidson told the team's official Web site.

McDonald will try and bring immediate results in his first game since the trade.

The 30-year-old scored 27 goals and recorded 51 assists in 2006 en route to his first All-Star game appearance. He also scored a team-high 10 playoff goals to help the Ducks to their first Stanley Cup championship.

St. Louis which fell, 1-0, to Florida on Friday, could certainly use the extra scoring. Despite being in second place in the Central Division, the Blues are second to last in the Western Conference with 76 goals.

Meanwhile, the Flames have won the first four games of their season-high six-game road trip. Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 33 shots and Dion Phaneuf scored the go-ahead goal in a 4-3 win over Carolina on Friday.

Calgary, which has never opened a road trip with five straight wins, has split the first two meetings with St. Louis this season.
