Red Wings look to remain hot at home against Capitals

DETROIT (Ticker) - The Detroit Red Wings haven't lost a home game in regulation since November 17. They will look to build on the NHL's best home record and point total on Monday against the Washington Capitals in the third game of a four-game homestand.

Detroit is coming off a 5-2 victory over Florida on Saturday, a game in which the Red Wings converted one of a team-record two penalty shots. Valtteri Filppula's goal was the Red Wings' first successful regular-season attempt since Nov. 27, 1992.

"I've never been in a game with two penalty shots, ever," said Detroit coach Mike Babcock, who picked up his 200th career victory.

Detroit, 8-0-2 in its last 10 games, was 3-for-6 on the power play and Chris Osgood (15-1, 1.76 goals-against average) made 33 saves. The Red Wings were without right wing Tomas Holmstrom (knee), center Kris Draper (knee) and left wing Kirk Maltby (back).

Left wing Henrik Zetterberg leads Detroit with 23 goals and 45 points.

Washington defeated Tampa Bay, 3-2, on Saturday as Brian Pothier, a healthy scratch the previous two games, broke a 2-2 tie with a goal at 5:06 of the third period. It was the first road game for the Capitals after a four-game homestand.

Left wing Alexander Ovechkin leads Washington with 23 goals and 15 assists.

The two teams haven't met since the 2005-06 season. The Capitals haven't beaten Detroit since the 2003-04 campaign.
