Blues look for second straight win against Bruins

Dec 22, 2007 - 1:12 PM St Louis (17-12-2) at Boston (18-12-4) 1:00 pm EST

BOSTON (Ticker) - Normally one win on the heels of a four-game losing streak wouldn't be cause for celebration. But when that win comes against the Detroit Red Wings, it may be something upon which to build.

The St. Louis Blues look to continue their winning ways when they visit the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

The Blues used a pair of third-period tallies on Thursday to hand the Red Wings their first regulation loss in nearly a month. Lee Stempniak punched in a power-play goal for the game winner after St. Louis had squandered a 1-0 lead by allowing two goals in the second period.

The win erased a four-game slide that had seen the Blues get outscored 20-12, including a 9-5 thrashing at Colorado on December 9.

The Bruins have struggled of late, losing three of their last four. They lost a 5-4 shootout thriller to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday despite battling back from a 4-0 deficit to force an extra session.

Thursday was the first night off for new goaltender Alex Auld, who had started six straight games for Boston after being acquired from the Phoenix Coyotes. The Canadian netminder is sporting a 1.68 goals-against average in a Bruins uniform.

Tim Thomas, who returned to the crease Thursday after missing time with a groin strain, leads the league with a .933 save percentage and could be in line for another start.

Despite their struggles of late, Boston is one of only four teams in the Eastern Conference sporting a positive goal differential, and currently sits in second place in the crowded Northeast Division.
