Islanders try to keep the goals coming

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) - The New York Islanders hope their offense is finally waking up.

Though just 3-7-1 since a 13-8-1 start, the Islanders ended a two-game slide on Friday with a 4-2 victory at Pittsburgh. The team looks to keep things rolling on Saturday when they host the Washington Capitals.

Miroslav Satan, Andy Hilbert, Blake Comeau and Trent Hunter scored on Friday, in what could be considered a scoring outburst by the Islanders. The team had not scored more than three goals in a game since November 1 - a span of 22 contests.

The teams have split two meetings this season, each winning on the road. Right wing Bill Guerin had three goals and defenseman Chris Campoli had four assists in the two games against the Capitals.

Rick DiPietro has a 2.02 goals-against average against Washington.

The Capitals are 1-2-1 in their last four games and have dropped two straight, including a 5-2 home loss to Montreal on Thursday.

Washington is led offensively by left wing Alex Ovechkin, who has a team-high 24 goals and 40 points. Center Michael Nylander has 21 assists for Washington.
