Sabres face Bruins in first game after initial loss

Nov 2, 2006 - 2:05 PM Buffalo (10-0-1) at Boston (3-5-1) 7:00 pm EST

BOSTON (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres finally experienced something that every NHL club already had faced - a defeat.

The Sabres try to rebound from their first loss of the season Thursday when they visit the Boston Bruins.

Buffalo had won its first 10 games before absorbing a 5-4 shootout loss to Atlanta on Saturday.

Two reasons for Buffalo's success has been a potent offense and the ability to win on the road. The Sabres, whose 53 goals leads the league, are 6-0-0 on the road this season.

Buffalo, which tied an NHL record with is season-opening winning streak, easily handled Boston when the clubs met on October 21.

Thomas Vanek had a goal and two assists while Chris Drury scored twice to lead the Sabres to an impressive 6-2 triumph. Martin Biron stopped 24 shots and the Sabres scored three power-play goals.

Wade Brookbank and Phil Kessel scored for the Bruins, who went scoreless in four power-play opportunities.

Boston snapped a two-game skid with a 2-1 win over Ottawa on Saturday.
