Brodeur looks to lead Devils to third straight win

Nov 2, 2006 - 2:25 PM NY Islanders (5-4-2) at New Jersey (6-4-1) 7:30 pm EST

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - Martin Brodeur has recorded back-to-back shutouts and looks to continue his stellar goaltending Thursday when the New Jersey Devils host the New York Islanders.

Brodeur stopped all 22 shots he faced in a 1-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. He has a total of 51 saves in the last two games.

The shutout was Brodeur's 83rd, moving him past Jacques Plante into fourth place on the all-time list. His next shutout will tie him with Glenn Hall for third place.

Zach Parise scored the game's only goal in the second period for the Devils, who had dropped their previous three games before their consecutive shutouts of the Florida Panthers and Blue Jackets.

New York also is looking for a third consecutive win to keep pace in the crowded Atlantic Division.

On Tuesday, Rick DiPietro stopped 30 shots to lead the Islanders to a 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

That contest ended a seven-game homestand in which the Islanders went 4-1-2. They are just 1-3-0 away from Nassau Coliseum this season.
