Jagr, Shanahan look to move toward milestones vs. Sharks

Nov 2, 2006 - 2:52 PM NY Rangers (6-6-0) at San Jose (9-4-0) 10:30 pm EST

SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) - Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan are climbing the charts while delivering a solid 1-2 punch for the New York Rangers.

Jagr and Shanahan can move closer to career milestones when the Rangers conclude their four-game Western road trip Thursday in their only meeting of the season against the San Jose Sharks.

The league's leading scorer (20 points), Jagr scored on a power play in overtime Wednesday to give the Rangers a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. It was Jagr's 595th career tally and gave New York its third overtime win in as many chances this season.

Shanahan, who ranks among the league leaders with 11 goals, moved into 13th place all-time with his 609th tally on a second-period power play. He passed Dino Ciccarelli on Wednesday and is one away from tying Hall of Famer Bobby Hull.

The Rangers have won two of the first three games of the road trip and bounced back after failing to score on nine power-play chances in Monday's loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

San Jose, which is opening a three-game homestand, snapped a two-game slide with consecutive victories over Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers to conclude a five-game road trip.

Christian Ehrhoff scored a power-play goal with 36 seconds left and reigning Hart and Art Ross Trophy winner Joe Thornton produced his second tally of the season as the Sharks rallied for a 2-1 victory over Florida on Tuesday.

New York has not lost here since posting a 3-2 victory over the Sharks on December 12, 2000.
