Sabres go for seventh straight win

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - In order for the Buffalo Sabres to extend their season-high winning streak, they will need to defeat the Eastern Conference's best team.

After a four-day break, Jochen Hecht will look to lead the Sabres to their seventh consecutive victory when they host the rival Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.

Buffalo stormed into the Christmas break, capping its six-game surge with back-to-back wins over the rival Philadelphia Flyers and a pair of former teammates.

With Daniel Briere and Martin Biron on the other side of the rink, Hecht scored the game-winning goal in Friday's 2-1 triumph and then set up Tomas Vanek's tying goal with eight seconds left before the Sabres registered the 6-5 victory in the shootout Saturday.

Buffalo also will be looking for a measure of revenge Wednesday after Ottawa ousted them from the playoffs last season, besting the Sabres in just five games.

The Senators are coming off an impressive 3-1 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday. The club has won seven of their last nine games following a seven-game losing skid.

Daniel Alfredsson leads Ottawa with 20 goals and 46 points this season.
