Jagr, Rangers hope to get back on track after break

NEW YORK (Ticker) - The New York Rangers did not have much to celebrate during the holidays.

Captain Jaromir Jagr hopes to help the team snap a three-game losing skid when the Rangers host the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.

New York entered the three-day layoff with losses in eight of its previous 10 contests, managing just 16 goals over that stretch.

Jagr is on a four-game point streak, but he has not had a goal in the last 10 games. The Czech superstar has just seven tallies and 27 points this season.

On pace for just 16 goals this season, Jagr has not failed to register 30 goals in a season since his rookie campaign in 1990-91, when he finished with 27.

After being relegated to the bench for three games in place of John Grahame, Cam Ward responded with a 29-save performance in Saturday's 4-1 triumph over the rival Tampa Bay Lightning.

Ward's last shutout came against the Rangers when he stopped 28 shots and Cory Stillman notched two goals in a 4-0 victory on December 3.
