Islanders look to avenge embarrassing loss to Maple Leafs

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) - It would be in the best interest of the New York Islanders to forget about the last time they played the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Islanders face the Maple Leafs on Wednesday for the first time since losing, 8-1, in Toronto on October 11. In that game, Toronto captain Mats Sundin set franchise records for career points and goals.

New York comes into Wednesday's game having won its last two games, including a 3-2 overtime victory over Washington. Making his 10th straight start, New York goaltender Rick DiPietro stopped 14 shots to earn his 106th NHL victory and moved into a third-place tie with Kelly Hrudey on the team's all-time wins list.

Toronto's 2-1 overtime victory at Florida on Saturday snapped a three-game losing streak. The Maple Leafs are 2-2-1 on this seven-game road trip.

Vesa Toskala has made 12 consecutive starts in goal for Toronto and has a 2.62 goals-against average on the season. Andrew Raycroft was in goal for the Maple Leafs in the 8-1 drubbing of New York.
