Flyers hope to end six-game skid against Maple Leafs
Dec 27, 2007 - 1:04 PM Toronto (15-14-8) at Philadelphia (16-14-4) 7:00 pm ESTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Flyers desperately need to stop the bleeding.
Captain Jason Smith will try to help the Flyers end their six-game losing streak Thursday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Since starting the campaign with six straight home wins, Philadelphia has managed just one victory at the Wachovia Center since November 12. Overall, the team has lost 12 of their previous 17 contests and fallen to last place of the Atlantic Division standings.
In his first season with the Flyers, Smith has not been productive on the scoresheet. The 34-year-old defenseman has been held scoreless over the club's current slide. Smith has just one goal and three assists.
The Maple Leafs will close out their season-long, seven-game road trip Thursday. They have gone 2-2-2 over that stretch.
Vesa Toskala made 12 straight starts in net before the Christmas break, so Andrew Raycroft was in the crease for Wednesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders. With Raycroft losing four consecutive games and six of his previous seven, Toskala will likely be back in goal for Toronto.
The 30-year-old Toskala is 13-11-4 with a 2.62 goals-against average and two shutouts this season.
