Penguins continue homestand against Capitals

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - The Pittsburgh Penguins continue their four-game homestand when they host the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

With Sunday's 4-2 victory over Boston, Pittsburgh evened its record to 1-1-0 in its first two games at home, where they have won four of six.

41-year-old Gary Roberts had two goals and one assist in the victory over the Bruins, while Sidney Crosby leads the team with 16 goals and 32 assists. Crosby also has five goals and 10 assists in nine career games against Washington.

The Capitals are coming off a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Before the game, Washington announced that coach Bruce Boudreau's "interim" tag would be removed. Boudreau is 8-5-3 since taking over for the fired Glen Hanlon on November 22.

"The goal when you take the job is to be here a long time," Boudreau said. "My job is to win and then re-evaluate everything at the end of the year. Until further notice, I'm here."

Washington is led by left wing Alex Ovechkin, who has 25 goals and 41 points.

The Capitals won the first meeting with the Penguins, 2-1, on October 20. Pittsburgh won all four clashes last season.
