Sabres looking to rebound against Devils

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres look to rebound from their first loss in seven games on Friday when they visit the New Jersey Devils.

The Sabres had a season-high six-game win streak snapped on Wednesday, suffering a 5-3 setback to the Eastern Conference-leading Ottawa Senators. The loss was just Buffalo's fourth in 12 games during December.

Despite the defeat, the Sabres continued their hot play on the offensive end of the ice, scoring at least three goals for the sixth time in their last seven games.

Jochen Hecht scored Buffalo's first goal of the game against the Senators and has registered points in each of his last three games with two goals and two assists over that span.

Hecht ranks second on Buffalo with 12 goals - one behind Derek Roy for the team lead - and has added nine assists while appearing in all 34 games.

The Devils go for their third straight win on Friday after logging a 1-0 overtime victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday.

Martin Brodeur made 30 saves in the win en route to his third shutout of the season and 95th of his career - surpassing George Hainsworth for second all-time.

Brodeur, who is tied with San Jose's Evgeni Nabokov for the NHL lead with 18 wins, needs eight more shutouts to tie Terry Sawchuk for first place all-time.
