Bruins face Thrashers looking to end losing streak

ATLANTA (Ticker) - Not much has gone right lately for the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins face the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday having lost a season-high five consecutive games. Once on the verge of challenging Ottawa for the top spot in the Northeast Division, Boston is now 12 points behind the conference-leading Senators.

Eric Staal had a goal and an assist, while Cam Ward made 18 saves on Friday as the Carolina Hurricanes extended the Bruins' recent woes with a 4-3 decision. Saturday's game with Atlanta will be the last road contest before Boston returns home for five games.

The Thrashers have dropped their last two games, including a 5-3 home loss on Thursday to the Florida Panthers. The victory ended an 11-game winless streak in Atlanta for Florida.

The teams will play each other four times this season. In the first meeting on December 12, the Bruins scored a pair of third-period goals to post a 5-3 victory and end their six-game losing streak against the Thrashers.

The teams will play again on Monday afternoon in Boston.
