Penguins, Sabers meet in outdoor tuneup

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Before heading outdoors, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres will meet in the traditional indoor arena on Saturday.

On Tuesday, the Penguins and the Sabres are set to play before over 70,000 people at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo - home of the Buffalo Bills - in the first ever NHL game held outdoors on U.S. soil.

Pittsburgh has been on a roll lately, climbing from last place in the Atlantic Division to second thanks to an 11-5-0 stretch since November 23. They have scored at least four goals in seven of those wins.

Sidney Crosby, who leads the club with 50 points, tallied an assist in overtime on Thursday as the Penguins won their second straight game, 4-3, over the Washington Capitals.

The Sabres had been hot until recently, dropping their last two contests to division leaders Ottawa and New Jersey. The two losses snapped a six-game winning streak that included two wins each against the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders.

Right wing Jason Pominville leads a balanced scoring attack with 31 points, as Buffalo ranks third in the Eastern Conference with 114 goals scored this season.
