Iginla, Flames singe Ducks

Dec 30, 2007 - 7:17 AM CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Jarome Iginla received an unexpected assist from Chris Pronger on Saturday.

Iginla scored two goals - the second of which deflected off Pronger's chest and into the net - to lift the Calgary Flames to a 5-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

With the game tied at 3-3 with 3:26 remaining in the third period, Iginla blasted a shot from the high slot which looked to be sailing wide of the net. Pronger, however, inadvertently redirected the puck back on net and past Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

"Fortunately, it took a good break off Pronger, but we'll take it," Iginla said. "I thought tonight we were moving it really well. You're moving it as a group and you're getting shots. You just stay positive. There was no frustration."

Kristian Huselius, who tied the game at 3-3 midway through the second period, added an empty-net goal with 66 seconds remaining to ice the game.

"The confidence came back in the second and third period," Huselius said. "I think we lost the confidence a bit late when we played at home in the last couple games. Now, we got it back for sure."

Calgary opened the scoring on its first shot of the game 102 seconds into the first period.

Dustin Boyd spun around and backhanded a shot over the leg of Giguere for his third goal of the season.

Todd Bertuzzi leveled the game five minutes later after receiving a feed from Ryan Getzlaf and one-timing it past Miikka Kiprusoff at 6:41 of the first period.

After George Parros gave Anaheim a 2-1 lead with his first goal of the season, Scott Niedermayer scored his first goal of the season just 1:15 into the second period.

Iginla halved the deficit with 8:46 remaining in the second period.

Calgary's captain blasted a shot from the left faceoff circle which sailed along the ice and past Giguere to cut the Ducks' lead to 3-2.

"Certainly, we were on our heels in the first 20," Calgary coach Mike Keenan said. "We established a good start and then we were reeling. They came at us very hard and we weren't responding that well.

"As the second period moved along, we got quicker in our decisions. We were able to find a solution offensively, which was a good response to a difficult start."

Kiprusoff finished with 27 saves and Giguere stopped 30 shots for Anaheim.

"It's disappointing to play the first 30 minutes as well as we did and not be able to finish the game out the way we started," Pronger said. "For whatever reason, we stopped moving our feet, stopped getting in on the forecheck, and do the things that allowed us to be successful in the first 30 minutes."
