Panthers face Flyers looking to get back to winning ways
Dec 30, 2007 - 2:21 PM Philadelphia (18-14-4) at Florida (18-17-3) 5:00 pm ESTSUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - It took almost half of the regular season for the Florida Panthers to be two games over .500. It lasted only one game. The Panthers will attempt to get back to that mark on Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
It will be the second of four games between the teams. Florida won the first meeting at home, 4-3, on October 24 as Olli Jokinen became the Panthers' career leader in goals and points.
Florida has been hot of late despite Friday's home loss to Montreal, winning four of its last six games to stay within striking distance of first-place Carolina in the Southeast Division.
Following a six-game winless streak, the Flyers have won two straight, including a 4-2 victory at Tampa Bay on Saturday. Joffrey Lupul scored on a penalty shot and added two assists, while Martin Biron made 31 saves for Philadelphia.
Lupul, who has four goals and four assists in his last four games and 10 goals in his last nine games, converted on a penalty shot in the first period. It was the Flyers' first conversion of the season in three tries.
Philadelphia center Simon Gagne (concussion) has resumed practicing and might return in the next few weeks. Flyers defenseman Randy Jones (knee) did not play against Tampa Bay and is listed as day-to-day.
