Bruins get second chance to snap slide vs. Thrashers

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins get another chance to snap their six-game losing streak against the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday when the teams meet for the second time in three days.

Boston endured its worst loss of its current slide against Atlanta on Saturday, suffering a 5-0 setback as the Bruins failed to contain NHL-leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk.

Kovalchuk scored a power-play goal midway through the second period for his league-high 32nd tally of the season. The 24-year-old left wing also added an assist later in the second stanza for his 52nd point of the campaign.

Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves for the Thrashers against the Bruins, recording his second shutout of the season. The 24-year-old netminder improved to 7-8-0 with the win - his fifth in his last seven games - and has posted a 2.98 goals-against average with a .907 save percentage this campaign.

The Bruins used two goaltenders during the embarrassing loss as Tim Thomas replaced Alex Auld to start the second period after Auld allowed three goals on just 13 shots. Thomas didn't fare much better, allowing two goals on 16 shots over the final two periods.
