Jagr, Rangers roll into Western Canada
Jan 2, 2008 - 1:02 PM NY Rangers (20-15-4) at Calgary (19-4-7) 9:00 pm ESTCALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) - It took a while but captain Jaromir Jagr is finally starting to heat up.
Jagr will try to lead the New York Rangers to their fourth straight victory as they kick off a three-game trip through Western Canada with a meeting against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.
After scoring just seven goals in his first 36 games, Jagr has netted four tallies in his previous three contests - all victories for the Rangers.
The five-time Art Ross Trophy winner still trails Scott Gomez (36) by two points for the team lead, but his recent burst is a good sign for New York, which trails the New Jersey Devils by one point for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
The Flames will attempt to win their third straight contest with Miikka Kiprusoff coming off one of his best performances of the season. The Finnish netminder made 24 saves to lead his club to a 2-1 triumph over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.
Kiprusoff is still yet to get a shutout this season after recording 17 blankings the past two campaigns, but he has posted a respectable 19-12-7 record.
Calgary has won eight of its previous 11 contests.
