Bruins hope to build on momentum
Jan 3, 2008 - 1:17 PM Washington (16-19-5) at Boston (19-16-4) 7:00 pm ESTBOSTON (Ticker) - Fresh off their worst stretch of the season, the Boston Bruins are hoping a single win can turn things around.
The Bruins will look to win a second straight game when they host the Washington Capitals on Thursday.
Boston snapped a six-game losing streak on Monday with a 5-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers, topping four goals for the first time in eight games. The Bruins overcame a 2-0 first period deficit with three second-period tallies en route to the win and got goals from five different players.
Mark Stuart tallied the game-winner in the second period after younger brother Colin had helped the Thrashers build a 2-0 lead in the first.
Newly-acquired defenseman Shane Hnidy is expected to see his first action with the Bruins on Thursday. On Wednesday, the team traded right wing Brandon Bochenski to the Anaheim Ducks for Hnidy and a sixth round draft pick.
The 32-year-old Hnidy has tallied three points in 33 games for the Ducks this season.
The Capitals have been scoring at an alarming rate in the past two games, winning a home-and-home series with Eastern Conference-front runner Ottawa while scoring 14 goals in the two contests.
Superstar Alex Ovechkin tallied four goals in last Saturday's 8-6 win and Michael Nylander has totaled three goals in the two games. Mike Green was the star of Tuesday's 6-3 victory with two goals and an assist.
