Stars seek revenge in rematch with Red Wings

DALLAS (Ticker) - Henrik Zetterberg returned just in time to help the Detroit Red Wings to a historic victory at the expense of the Dallas Stars.

The Stars will be looking for revenge when they host the rival Red Wings on Saturday in the back end of a home-and-home series.

Detroit completed the best first half of a season in franchise history on Wednesday night with a 4-1 victory over Dallas. The club posted its 30th victory, marking the first time it has reached the plateau through 41 games.

The 1994-95 and 1995-96 teams each registered 29 wins through 41 contests and the 1995-96 squad finished the campaign with an NHL-record 62 victories.

Henrik Zetterberg, who missed five games with back spasms, returned to the Red Wings' lineup Wednesday and collected two assists.

Chris Osgood continued his impressive play as he turned aside 23 shots to improve his record to 18-2-1 on the season. The veteran netminder is 26-10-3 lifetime against the Stars.

The loss was the second straight for Dallas, which had won eight of its previous nine games. Detroit has won five of its last six contests.

Mike Modano, who has 12 goals and 13 assists this season, has played the Red Wings 82 times in his 17-year career and has 27 tallies and 65 points in those games.
