Brodeur leads red-hot Devils into Boston

BOSTON (Ticker) - Martin Brodeur is continuing to push toward a pair of NHL records.

The three-time Vezina Trophy winner will look to gain even more ground in the record books Saturday when them New Jersey Devils visit the Boston Bruins.

Brodeur made 36 saves en route to his fourth shutout of the season as the Devils defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-0, on Friday. The reigning Vezina recipient now has 96 career shutouts, putting him seven blankings shy of tying Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuk for most in NHL history.

The 35-year-old netminder also is just 37 victories shy of breaking the all-time wins mark (551), held by Hall of Famer Patrick Roy. Brodeur, who will one day be enshrined in Toronto as well, is 21-13-2 this season.

Patrik Elias had a power-play goal and an assist in his return from a groin injury Friday as the Devils won for the fifth time in six games.

Brodeur is not the only goaltender coming off a shutout as Tim Thomas stopped 31 shots to record his second blanking on the campaign in the Bruins' 2-0 triumph over the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

Thomas has posted a 12-9-3 record with a league-best .931 save percentage.
